United Kingdom / Netherlands | Coolrec UK, part of the integrated waste
management company Van Gansewinkel Groep, closes down its fridge and CRT
recycling factory in Basildon, United Kingdom. Strong price competition in the
UK recycling markets has significantly diminished prospects for the company. In
addition, prices for output materials have plummeted due to the global economic
situation, the Dutch parent group says.

Coolrec is active in the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment,
especially discarded fridges, CRTs and small domestic appliances. European WEEE
legislation makes this specific market segment a growth market. The plant,
situated at Basildon offers work to approximately 40 people and was acquired by
Van Gansewinkel Groep in 2005. The activities of the company will be
discontinued in accordance with applicable law.

The Coolrec Group has factories in the Netherlands (3), Belgium (2) and France
and offers work to 350 employees in total. On an annual basis 1, 3 million
fridges and about 1, 5 million televisions and monitors are being recycled. The
company supplies production companies with raw materials like steel, aluminium,
copper and a range of plastics.
