Lead battery recycler Aqua Metals confirmed in an 8K filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on September 27 that meetings had begun with Johnson Controls to begin converting one of JCI’s facilities to install its AquaRefining technology. An 8-K filing is used to notify investors in US public companies to events that may be important to them or the SEC, the US regulatory body.

“On September 25, 2017, we delivered to Johnson Controls written notice of our readiness to commence discussions to convert or retrofit a Johnson Controls facility to be capable of using AquaRefining to produce lead,” the 8K form reads.

The technology was licensed by JCI eight months ago. A definitive Development Program Agreement is still to be negotiated.

"As a start-up, Aqua Metals is continuing its ramp-up to achieve full-scale operations in Reno, Nevada," Kari Pfisterer, external communications office director, Power Solutions, with JCI, told BESB.

"The 8K announcement confirms ongoing discussions around installing the Aqua Metal technology in a Johnson Controls location. Our intentions with this agreement remain the same as originally announced, which is to invest in clean technologies, such as Aqua Metals, building on our commitment to create a more sustainable and environmentally responsible industry."
