Lead was widely used in the manufacture of water supply pipe and fixtures, for joints in other pipe materials, and as solder for joining copper pipe.

Lead pipes are used in pulp and paper industry in cooling systems of sulfur dioxide gases in bleaching stock with hydrogen peroxide or zinc hydrosulphite and for conveying the discharge liquors from the pulp digesters.
